Study visit to Toyota Material Handling Innovation Center in Linköping with IEEE

On December 18th, 31 students and researchers participated in a visit to the Toyota Material Handling Innovation Center in Linköping. Organized by the IEEE Linköping Student Branch and IEEE Young Professionals Sweden. The event included presentations, discussions, and a fika session.

The Toyota team shared their work on advanced technologies, including robotics, AI, IoT, and Big Data, focusing on predictive maintenance and operational efficiency. Participants learned about Toyota’s use of Lidar for navigation and their plans to enhance connectivity for smarter systems.

The visit also highlighted Toyota’s collaborations with organizations like RISE and Fraunhofer and their prototyping support for engineers and AI specialists. The event provided valuable insights into Toyota’s strategies for innovation, sustainability, and efficiency in material handling and beyond.

IEEE Distinguished Lecture: Ready To Join the Cybersecurity Industry? What You Need To Know

On November 22, the IEEE Linköping Student Branch in collaboration with the IEEE Young Professionals Affinity Group successfully hosted a distinguished lecture on cybersecurity.

The session, led by Torbjörn Andersson, provided attendees with valuable insights into the foundational skills, certifications, and internships essential for launching a successful career in the cybersecurity field. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the critical prerequisites and best practices necessary to excel in this rapidly growing industry.

The event was well-received, sparking engaging discussions and equipping attendees with practical knowledge to take their first steps into the world of cybersecurity.

National Supercomputer Centre Tour

On December 12, IEEE Linköping Student Branch organized a visit to the National Supercomputer Centre at Campus Valla. The National Supercomputer Centre in Sweden (NSC) provides leading-edge high-performance computing resources and support to users throughout Sweden. NSC is an independent center within Linköping University.

 

IEEE Young Professionals Distinguished Lecture

On October 12, Linköping University hosted a distinguished lecture on Cellular networks: modern design and future look by Alexey Shapin from Ericsson. The talk was also streaming online so that IEEE members (and not only) within Sweden could join. After the lecture, all participants had opportunity to ask questions about job opportunities in Ericsson.

The event was organized by IEEE Young Professionals Affinity Group in collaboration with IEEE Linköping Student Branch.

 

AI HackTrack at Linköping University

On September 29, AI HackTrack was held at LiU, where several teams of students came together to build innovative solutions using artificial intelligence. The participants had only 9 hours to bring their ideas to life. The final presentations were fantastic! All the winners got cash certificates and gifts from MathWorks and IEEE.

IEEE PhD Fika

On September 20, the event introduced IEEE to PhD students at Linköping University by showing the benefits of being an IEEE member.

IEEE Sweden Section Chair, Andrei Gurtov, gave a talk on IEEE Sweden Section and the opportunities providing by IEEE organization. The doctoral student representative at Linköping University, Rina Blomberg, gave a talk on difficulties PhD students may encounter during their studies and who to ask for the support.

Afterwards, all participants got an opportunity to ask questions about IEEE or PhD studies in general and enjoy coffee with cakes.

IEEE Workshop on Machine Learning using MATLAB

On April 19, IEEE Workshop on Machine Learning using MATLAB held at Linköping University was attended by almost 50 students. Presentation of IEEE student activities was given by Oksana Moryakova, IEEE Sweden Section Student Activities Chair. A workshop on how to build a machine learning algorithm using MATLAB was given by Yamha Javid, MATLAB ambassador. The participants who managed to complete MATLAB course on  Machine Learning during the workshop won MATLAB merchandise. The food (sushi and soft drinks) was provided for all the participants.

IEEE Linköping Student Branch Kick-Off with Pizza Seminar

On December 16th, IEEE Student Branch Kick-Off Seminar was held at Linköping University.

IEEE  member Ted Johansson gave a talk on energy efficiency in wireless circuits. Pizza was provided for all the participants.

The IEEE Region 8 Students and Young Professionals Congress was held on September 14-26, 2020, in a hybrid format.

IEEE Nordic SYP 2019

The IEEE Nordic SYP Congress 2019 was co-hosted by the Finish and Swedish Young Professionals affinity groups, and the student branches of both countries. The 3 day event was based on a cruise ship between Finland and Sweden with talks from leading IEEE representatives from Region 8, and industry experts talking about how sustainability relates to their respective industries.

Model-based product development workshop

The Center for Model-Based Cyber-Physical Product Development (MODPROD) is an inter-disciplinary research center at Linköpings universitet. The center involves a number of companies as well as researchers from the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA) and the Department of Management and Engineering (IEI). The event is the annual workshop of the center.

CV Workshop

Every year we host a CV workshop to help students prepare and improve their CVs. This event was begun by the KTH Student branch, but will now be moved to a WebEx format to allow easy access to all student branches.

Inaugural Nordic SYP Congress 2015

The Sweden Young Professionals Affinity Group, and Student Branches combined to host the first ever Nordic SYP Congress. The event was also used to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the IEEE Sweden Section.
