Message from the IEEE Sweden Section Chair
Dear IEEE Sweden members,
We held the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in a hybrid format (online and in Linköping University) in March. After the formal part, a technical lecture was presented by an IEEE Fellow Prof. Henrik Sandberg (KTH).
The signed minutes and other reports are available on our web site https://r8.ieee.org/sweden/archive/
Gladly, now we have a full and energetic executive board with all positions filled.
The Region 8 meeting was shortly after in March in Bucharest. The next R8 meeting will be co-located with the Section Congress in Ottawa, Canada, in August 2023. Being a part of IEEE, especially as a volunteer, is very rewarding experience, as one can find friends almost in any country in the world.
With open travel opportunities and upcoming IEEE events in Sweden, I wish you a productive year with new publications, contacts and standardization activities!
Best regards
Prof. Andrei Gurtov, Section Chair
Senior Membership Campaign
In this year, the section continues to run the Nominate a senior member campaign. The IEEE Sweden section has many members that are eligible for Senior member elevation.
IEEE Bylaw I-104.3 sets forth the criteria for elevation to Senior Member grade as follows:
- A candidate shall be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive or originator in IEEE-designated fields
- Candidates shall have been in professional practice for at least ten years
- Candidates shall have shown significant performance over a period of at least five of those years
In addition, candidates for Senior Member grade must supply three references from current IEEE members holding the grade of Fellow, Senior Member, or Honorary Member.
Often, the main hurdle for applying for IEEE Senior Membership is that the Member does not know three IEEE Senior Members for references.
If you believe you have fulfilled the requirements for senior membership, then send your expression of interest and CV to IEEE Sweden Section. The IEEE Sweden Section’s membership committee will evaluate your application and provide you with the relevant references to support your application.
Call for Life Membership Affinity Group
IEEE Life Membership is an official recognition of a strong and sustained commitment to IEEE. As there are currently near 140 life members in the IEEE Sweden Section, there is a high potential to start an IEEE Life Member Affinity Group under the Sweden Section. We welcome volunteers for this effort. Please make contact with the section chair Prof. Andrei Gurtov and the membership development officer Dr. Ming Xiao if you are interested in volunteering to establish the Life Membership Affinity Group.
Call for Industrial Relations Committee members
The IEEE Sweden Section’s Industry Relations Committee is looking for additional members to join the committee. If you are interested, please reach out the Industry Relations Officer for more details.
