Call for Bids – NIGERCON 2026

IEEE Nigeria Section Flagship Conference

The IEEE Nigeria Section Conference Coordination Committee is pleased to invite bids for the organization of NIGERCON 2026, the Nigeria Section’s flagship conference. NIGERCON brings together researchers, government, industry experts, professionals, and students from across Nigeria and beyond to share knowledge, present research findings, and discuss innovations in engineering and technology.

Conference Details

  • Event: NIGERCON 2026 (Expected attendance: 300 participants)
  • Timeline: To be held in 2026 (Specific dates to be proposed by bidders)

Submission Timeline

First Stage: Initial Submission – Due by June 30, 2025

  • Letter of Intent: A document (maximum 3 pages) from the local organizing committee chair stating:
    • Intention to organize NIGERCON in a specific city
    • Proposed venue and/or hosting institution
    • Organizations providing technical and organizational support
    • Experience of the team in organizing IEEE conferences
    • Any other relevant information about the site and organizing team
  • Section Endorsement Letter: A document signed by the organization Chief Executive confirming:
    • Full support for the conference organization
    • Percentage of financial involvement as co-sponsor (minimum 50%, maximum 80%)
    • Any participation of Societies, Chapters, and Affinity Groups as Technical Co-Sponsors
    • Extract of minutes from the management meeting with the decision to host and list of participants

Second Stage: Complete Bid Package – Due by August 30, 2025

  • Detailed presentation of the proposal
  • Comprehensive budget
  • Additional supporting documents

Submissions for both stages should be sent to chucks@ieee.org

Selection results will be announced at the Nigeria Section Technical and Administrative Meeting in October 2025.

Bid Requirements

The final bid package should include:

1.   Detailed Presentation (PowerPoint format) containing:

  • Brief information about the host city and venue
  • Details of venue facilities and at least one backup option
  • Accessibility information (transportation options for national and international attendees)
  • Technical scope and topics to be covered at the conference
  • Proposed organizing committee structure with named individuals for key roles:
    • Local Organizing Chair and Co-chair(s)
    • Technical Program Chair and Co-chair(s)
    • Finance Chair/Treasurer
    • Publication Chair
    • Local Arrangements Chair
    • Publicity Chair
  • List of involved IEEE units and potential partners
  • Expected industrial and institutional support
  • Projected impact on IEEE Nigeria Section’s visibility and member engagement
  • Budget summary with registration fees for three scenarios:
    • Expected case
    • Worst case
    • Best case
  • Contingency plans for hybrid or virtual attendance if needed
  • Benefits to local IEEE members and the broader IEEE community
  • Any unique aspects of the proposal that set it apart

2.   Detailed Budget using the IEEE Nigeria Section template, including:

  • All anticipated income sources
  • Sponsorships (industrial, governmental, academic)
  • Registration fee structure (with discounted rates for IEEE members)
  • All projected expenses (venue, catering, materials, )
  • Expected surplus (recommended to be around 20%)

3.   Supporting Documents:

  • Letters of support from potential sponsors or partners
  • Commitment letters from key organizing committee members
  • Any additional materials that strengthen the proposal

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The bid must originate from within the IEEE Nigeria Section, from an organization, a Chapter, Affinity Group, or Student Branch.
  2. Conference committee members must commit to completing the IEEE Conference Organizer training
  3. Local organizing Chair and Finance Chair must be IEEE Senior Members residing in
  4. The organizing team must demonstrate experience in conference
  5. The conference must use approved IEEE conference management platforms and IEEE Nigeria Section’s banking facilities.

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following weighted criteria:

  • Organizing Team Strength and Experience (25 points)
    • Qualifications and IEEE experience of key committee members
    • Previous conference organization experience
  • Venue and Logistics (20 points)
    • Quality and suitability of primary and backup venues
    • Accommodation options for attendees
    • Transportation accessibility
  • Technical Program Quality (15 points)
    • Relevance of technical focus areas
    • Plans for paper review and quality control
    • Proposed keynote speakers and special sessions
  • Financial Plan (20 points)
    • Feasibility and comprehensiveness of budget
    • Affordability of registration fees
    • Strength of sponsorship plans
  • Impact and Innovation (15 points)
    • Potential impact on IEEE Nigeria Section
    • Unique or innovative elements in the proposal
    • Plans for promoting IEEE membership
  • Endorsements and Support (5 points)
    • Quality and quantity of support letters

Important Guidelines

  1. NIGERCON should follow the IEEE Nigeria Section Technical Conference Sponsor (TCS)
  2. The planning timeline should align with the NIGERCON Framework Document, which recommends beginning preparations 36 months in
  3. The IEEE Nigeria Section will provide seed funding as approved by executives, which must be returned within one month after the conference (revenue permitting).
  4. The organizing committee must adhere to:
    • IEEE Code of Ethics
    • IEEE Publications Operations Manual
    • IEEE Technical Activities Operations Manual
    • IEEE MGA Operations Manual
    • IEEE Nigeria Section Bye-laws

Meet our Speakers

Prof Melodi Adegoke

Prof Melodi Adegoke Oladipo is a distinguished professor of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Nigeria. He specializes in Power Systems Engineering and has made significant contributions to the field through his research and publications. His research interests include long-term load forecasting, power distribution quality, and smart energy metering systems.
Throughout his career, Professor Adegoke has published numerous papers on various aspects of power systems engineering. His work has been widely cited, reflecting his influence and the impact of his research in the field. Also, he has been involved in several projects aimed at improving Nigeria’s power grid and addressing the challenges of electricity distribution in the country.

Chinelo Okafor

Chinelo Okafor, a COREN registered Electrical and Electronics Engineer and an author of a book, “Basic Python for Data Science”. She is a certified Data Analyst with over 10 years of experience in Data Science. She has worked as a Solar Analyst and Performance Engineer in the Telecommunication industry.

She established Daisy Tech Limited, driven by her passion to share her extensive Data Science expertise and empower the next generation with valuable Data Science and AI skills. Her mission is to prepare young individuals for the digital age and equip them to tackle local challenges, fostering innovative solutions and positive impact. To date, she has successfully imparted Data Science knowledge to over 200 professionals and graduates, and digital skills to more than 100 children.

She has received numerous awards in recognition of her fervent commitment to youth development. Notable accolades include IEEE PES Day 2020 Ambassador award for contributing to bring more power to the future, the Diversity Champion Award from the SheEngineer 30% Club by APWEN, an Award of Recognition from the Nigeria Society of Engineers (Victoria Island branch) for her exemplary role as an executive member of the best branch in 2020, and a Certificate of Appreciation from TECHWOMEN Nigeria, acknowledging her company’s participation as one of the host organizations for student mentorship.

An IEEE HTB and Region 8 Sponsored Water Scheme is Commissioned in Umuahia Ohekelem

It was a memorable Easter day celebration as a solar-powered water scheme was commissioned for the dwellers of Umuahia Ohekelem and environs. On March 30, 2024 at about 4pm, an IEEE region 8 and Humanitarian Technology Board (HTB) sponsored water scheme was commissioned for dwellers of Umuahia.

Prior to the commissioning ceremony which was graced by Men, Women, Youths and Children of Umuahia Ohekelem, a close-out meeting took place between the project team and people of Umuahia. During the stakeholders’ meeting, Engr Oto-obong John Effiong (Project Team Lead) re-emphasized the need to sustain the project deliverable over the years. In his own remarks, the village head (Nze Hillary Okere) assured the project team that the village will sustain the project.

Following the conclusion of the meeting which was similar to the one done prior to the project commencement on February 1, 2024, the project was closed-out with jubilation among the people of Umuahia Ohekelem. Gallery speaks!

We are delighted to invite you to the Technical and Administrative meeting (TAM) of IEEE Nigeria Section.

IEEE ComSoc Nigeria Section Chapter Commissions its Internet Provision Project in SLU

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Communication Society Nigeria Chapter has commissioned an ICT Village Hub for the provision of free Internet services to students and staff of the Faculty of Computing and information Technology Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa, Nigeria. The grant #23‐COMHTB‐03 was fully funded by the IEEE ComSoc and Humanitarian Technologies Board (HTB) of the IEEE. The faculty of computing and Information Technology (FCIT) which took-off in 2021/2022 academic session with four (4) Departments and four (4) Undergraduate programmes during the first year of its establishment. Currently the faculty offers Bachelor degree programmes in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology and Software Engineering, with an enrolment of 613 students across all the levels.

The Project Lead, Prof Nasir Faruk, who is the Chair IEEE ComSoc Nigeria and the Dean Faculty of CIT, SUL, stated that the project was successfully executed. Network Infrastructure were deployed to provide free WiFi Internet services to staff and students 24/7. Network operations center was also established to monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues, which was established inside the radio science observatory located within the same faculty building. The aim of the maintenance center is to be conducing regular preventive maintenance activities.  A help desk was also established to provide technical support to end-users, conduct periodic network upgrades to improve performance and add new features.
