PES NIGERIA CHAPTER
Background
The IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) – Nigeria Chapter was registered in May 2001 by petition signed by active Power Engineering professional members. Engr Isaac Adekanye SMIEEE then combined the role of PES Chapter Chair with that of Nigeria Section Chair. The Chapter had participation of members in the power industry covering the generation, transmission, distribution and energy utilization both from the academia and industry.
Membership is spread across the different grades such as Students, Associates, Member and Senior Members. The Chapter involves the affinity groups such as the Youth Professionals, Women in Power. A number of Student Branch Chapters are active in the Nigeria Section. PES Chapter championed the MOU with the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
PES Nigeria Chapter is blessed with leaders and dynamic volunteers such as Engr Tunde Salihu (Past Power Africa Conference Chair), Engr Abdullateef Aliyu, IEEE Nigeria Section General Secretary, Engr Raphael Onoshakpor (Past Chair, IEEE Nigeria Section), Prof Engr Gloria Chukwudebe (Past IEEE Africa Chair) and host of others.
Activities
PES Nigeria Chapter had several activities during the COVID 19 lockdown period for the benefit of members. Webinars were organized with experienced professionals sharing knowledge on various topical and relevant issues that are well received. Some of the webinars include Metering Challenges and Solutions in Off grid Environments; it was delivered by Engr Tolu Collins of MOMAS Limited. Another one was Review of the Nigerian Electricity Roadmap: Siemens Contract with Engr Emmanuel Akinwole FNSE, Engr Idowu Oyebanjo CEng and Engr Abiodun Odewale MNSE as presenters. Others are How to write an Effective Technical Paper and Role of Smart Grid in Facilitating the Integration of Renewables both delivered by Prof Saifur Rahman, Past PES President and President-elect candidate for IEEE President 2021.
The Chapter, driven by volunteers, participated actively in the PES Day celebrations. Nigeria Chapter had PES Ambassadors such as Engr Oto-obong Effiong, Miss Uduak Akpanedet, Engr Wale Alonge, Engr Chinelo Okafor and Engr Haruna Gana.
Leadership of the PES Nigeria Chapter have close professional relationship with the Women in Engineering Affinity Group.
Meet Our Officers
PES Nigeria Chapter has been very active for the benefit of the institute and her members. The Chapter has been led by Engr Tasiu Gidari Wudil SMIEEE, FNSE (Deputy President of Nigerian Society of Engineers) and handed over to Dr. Engr. Kehinde Temikotan SMIEEE, FNSE that piloted the affairs until December 2018. At the technical meeting held in Q1 0f 2019, the leadership baton was handed over to Engr Isaac Adekanye SMIEEE, FNSE.
