On 15th June 2021, the School of Information and Communication Technology, Federal University of Technology, Owerri held its second symposium on special topics with theme: Disruptive Technologies and Innovation. The event which was financially supported by IEEE Nigeria Section volunteers attracted more than 300 participants.

The symposium started with opening remarks by Prof Gloria Chukwudebe – Immediate Past Chair, IEEE Africa Council & Dean, School of Information and Communication Technology, Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

In the symposium, Nnamdi Uba talked on Putting Blockchain Technology to use while Iheanyi Offurum made a presentation on Big Data and Analysis. The presentation by Clement Nwafor was focused on Renewable Energy with much emphasis on the design concepts and implementation of renewable energy solutions. Chiemezuwo Ajuzie thrilled participants with his presentation on Robotics Innovations in the Agricultural Value Chain.

IEEE volunteers from the University attended the event. Among whom were: Prof. Ify Achumba (Vice Chair, IEEE Nigeria Section), Dr. Kennedy Okafor (Treasurer, IEEE Nigeria Section) and Reginald Ogu (Webmaster, IEEE Nigeria Section, Africa Council and 2021 PowerAfrica Conference).
