The Enugu State University of Science and Technology Student Branch of IEEE (STB63861) organized a Students Professional Awareness Activities event on February 13th, 2020 .  The event which took place at the 306B Faculty of Engineering (ESUT), was attended by over 180 participants (29 IEEE members and 154 Non-IEEE members).

The objectives of the first IEEE Students Professional Awareness Activities (SPAA) at Enugu State University of Science and Technology, tagged ‘Equip yourself in the University’ were to:

  • Instill the culture of joining a reputable organization like IEEE for personal and professional growth.
  • Introduce the students to relevant skills.
  • Expand IEEE student membership, thereby guaranteeing the growth and sustainability of the student branch in ESUT.

Mr. Emeka Uke and Onyinye Ikenwankwo were among the IEEE volunteers that planned this great event, with the support by Godwin Ozor (The IEEE ESUT Student Branch Councilor), who declared the event open with brief remarks.

Technical Presentations

The first speaker, Godson Nwankwo spoke on ‘The Practice of Innovation’. He highlighted the quest to know and readiness to follow processes as key indicators for creativity.

In their seperate presentations, Nneka Eze spoke extensively on ‘The Art of Communication’ while Godwin Ozor spoke on ‘Personal Skill Sets Development’. He highlighted the steps to acquire relevant skill sets as establishing a goal, assessing current realities/environments, identification of needs for the skills/knowledge and going for appropriate development activities to meet the needs.

Subsequently, Chioma Oleka spoke on ‘The role of women in Engineering’ while Arinze Aniagba spoke on ‘The structured and legitimate means to make money as a student’.

At the end of the program, students and staff were very happy and many students indicated interest to join the IEEE.
