IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society - South Italy Chapter

The IEEE GRSS-SI Chapter is part of the IEEE Italy Section and was formally established on 25 April 2003, and a kickoff ceremony took place on 23 May 2003. The activities of the Chapter are managed by the executive committee. The Chapter’s main goal is to promote GRSS activities within the Italian southern regions: Campania, Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria, Sicily, and Sardinia.

Mission

The mission of the GRSS-SI Chapter is to promote an interactive technical and professional forum where senior scientists, students and industry employees can exchange ideas, methods, and technologies to improve the understanding of the Earth and to face the multiple threats and issues affecting our environment. Short and long-term Earth observation and monitoring is necessary to foster a sustainable exploitation of Earth’s resources. In this context, there is an ongoing need for better technology (sensors, vehicles, etc.) and methods to process data (model-based approaches, AI, big data, etc.)
The initiatives of the GRSS-SI Chapter aim at promoting an integrative approach to space, climate, ocean and energy supported by emerging technological innovations and advances in data science. The GRSS-SI Chapter activities  include networking within its scientific community, organization of thematic workshops, education of young professionals, and planning of special sessions at the flagship IEEE Italy Section and GRSS conferences. These activities aim at boosting the interaction among engineers and scientists to create a diverse combination of talent that will foster a rapid distribution of knowledge and stimulate the development of creative opportunities.
