IEEE in North Macedonia

Interest in IEEE began in the 1970s, but it wasn’t until 1990 that the Republic of Macedonia had 10 members. By the summer of 1996, the membership reached 50, leading to the petition for forming the IEEE Republic of Macedonia Section. The initiative board, led by Goce L. Arsov and others, organized activities and recruited members. In January 1997, IEEE President Charles Alexander visited, and the Section was officially approved on February 14, 1997.

The Ss Cyril & Methodius University in Skopje is currently the only student branch in North Macedonia, organising different kinds of activities including seminars, workshops, membership development presentations, and student paper competitions. Section’s student members participated to Student & Young Professionals congresses several times. Section’s teams regularly participate in IEEEXtreme and reach to the top 10 in Region 8. One of the main events organized by the Student Branch is the international student competition in robotics and AI RoboMac, and its counterpart RoboMac Junior specifically designed for high school students, for which activities the SSCS SBC has received the 2022 SSCS Chapter with Best Pre-University Outreach Award.
