2025 IEEE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON Metrology for Automotive

The 2025 IEEE International Workshop on Metrology for Automotive (IEEE MetroAutomotive 2025) aims to be a solid reference of the technical community to present and discuss the most recent advances and results of both scientific and technological research activities in the automotive industry, with particular emphasis on new trends and applications.

Attention is paid, but not limited, to new technologies for metrology-assisted production in automotive industry, sensors/diagnostics and associated signal conditioning for automotive, and calibration methods for electronic test and measurement for automotive.

The program is designed to raise the interest of a wide group of researchers, operators and decision-makers from metrology and automotive fields, by presenting the most innovative solutions from the scientific and technological points of view. The Workshop covers all aspects of the segment, with a particular focus on hybrid/full-electrical vehicles, connected autonomous cars and related mobility.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Program Committee is inviting Full Papers (from 4 to 5 pages) for the IEEE MetroAutomotive 2025 Workshop.

Interested researchers, academics, practitioners and industry partners are invited to submit full papers for the Workshop. Papers that involve joint authorship with students, industry and community partners are encouraged. Early career researchers and research students are also encouraged to contribute papers.

All contributions will be peer-reviewed and acceptance will be based on quality, originality and relevance. Accepted papers will be submitted for inclusion into IEEE Xplore Digital Library.

The extended version of top-quality papers that are presented at the Workshop will be eligible for journal publication.

Call for Ideas: Innovations in Vehicle Propulsion Technologies to Address Climate Change

The VTS Society together with its Vehicle Power Propulsion Committee, and VTS Italy chapter has decided to launch a new Call for Ideas for young professional,  focused on discussing innovative propulsion technologies for vehicles with the goal of combating climate change. The call is motivated by the urgent need to address climate change through innovative transportation solutions.
Propulsion has many components that can be worked on: from changing fuels to developing fuel reduction algorithms to new forms of mobility systems.
The primary objectives of this initiative are:
  • Support the transition towards more sustainable forms of transportation that mitigate the impacts of climate change.
  • Encourage the development of alternative propulsion technologies such as hydrogen fuel cells, electric motors, biogas systems, and other novel methods.
  • Showcase the potential benefits of adopting new propulsion technologies in terms of environmental preservation and economic efficiency.
  • Provide a platform for innovators to present and validate their ideas within the marketplace, thus fostering a community of forward-thinking developers and researchers.

Summer School 5G: Enabling Technologies, Opportunities and Research Challenges Ahead

When: 01 July – 05 July 2024

School: University of Pisa Summer School

Institution: University of Pisa

City: Pisa

Country: Italy

Language: English

Credits: 6.0 EC

Fee: 250 EUR

About

The 2024 edition of the Summer School ‘5G: Enabling Technologies, Opportunities and Research Challenges Ahead’ is organized to offer 6 ECTS (48 hours of front lessons) in the broad field of 5G networks, targeting an audience of Bachelor (last year), Master and PhD students, early stage researchers and practitioners from Academia or Industry.
The technologies, opportunities and research challenges of 5G networks will be presented and discussed during the school.

Lessons will be held at teh Department of Information Engineering, located in Via G. Caruso, 16, Pisa, Italy.

Course leader

Prof. Marco Moretti

Target group

Bachelor (last year), Master and PhD students, in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Management) disciplines, early stage researchers and practitioners from Academia or Industry.

Course aim

Together with high-capacity fixed networks, 5G will provide the connectivity needed for the digital transformation. With respect to previous generations, 5G constitutes a revolutionary transformation of communications: its new radio improves performance in terms of speed, latency, terminal density and power consumption. However, the real novelty of 5G is the revolution it entails in terms of creating and facilitating new and diversified services and enabling new non-human users. Thanks to its software network and full integration with the cloud, 5G will enable new use scenarios, with a significant impact in every sector: agriculture, commerce, defence, energy, finance, health, industry, media, public administration, safety, transport.

The Summer School provides lessons, from the industry and academic community, about the enabling technologies and methodologies in 5G networks and applications.
The 5G Summer School aspires to give attendees the opportunity to learn about the architecture and promise of 5G networks. No prior familiarity with the technology is required, and the intent is to give the attendees a solid foundation in the technology, the current issues and the key user benefits.

A final exam is foreseen. After passing the exam the University of Pisa will register the course as an official exam of 6 ECTS.

Summer School of Information Engineering (SSIE) – “Silvano Pupolin”

Summer School of Information Engineering SSIE2024

SSIE 2024 – School Program

School dates: Monday 08 – Friday 12 July, 2024.

SSIE is jointly organized by the IEEE Italy and the Department of Information Engineering (DEI) at the University of Padova. In line with the school tradition, SSIE 2024 will cover very timely and cutting edge research areas, covering theory, systems and applications within the broad ICT domain.

The PhD School will feature tens of scientific talks and lectures, social events, plenty of fine food, relaxation and hiking in the alps! And for the first time in its history, the registration fee to SSIE 2024 will cover coffee breaks and lunches for all the 5 days of the school.

We are looking forward to a great event, where PhD students will have a unique opportunity to meet and discuss among themselves and with professors. The technical program is exciting, we can’t wait to meet again this year in July, in the beautiful Brixen 🙂

This year, SSIE 2024 will have two tracks:

  • Track 1, focusing on modern machine learning and optimization (theory and algorithms) for future wireless networks;
  • Track 2, focusing on GaN-based devices and systems for energy efficiency and automotive

SSIE 2024 – School Program

Track 1 (Telecommunications)

  • Quantum learning
  • Adaptive and continual learning
  • Spiking neural networks
  • New frontiers of reinforcement learning
  • 6G applications (automotive, MIMO, energy efficiency)
  • Applications of machine learning for 6G networks
  • Experimental research towards 6G

Track 2 (Electronics)

  • Gallium nitride (GaN)
  • Automotive power electronics
  • Energy efficiency
