GPS technology and its use in sport

Over the last decade, the usage of GPS devices in soccer has spread from elite and professional clubs to amateur. On a side, this has added new values on performance analysis, allowing to produce valuable data and compare different levels of performance. On the other one, the increase of users and analysts, without proper technical, scientific and technological backgrounds, has increased the risk of confusion and sometime, as drastic consequence, lost of credibility in data. Proper acquisition frequency, suitable filtering, noise handling, high performing antennas, interferences reduction systems, sensor fusion, based on AI advanced metrics, alignment between different technologies are conditio sine qua non to allow accurate and usable analysis.
