HELLENIC INTERNATIONAL POWER GROUP MEETINGS
Mission
The HIPG is formed by Greek power system engineers working abroad who want to share experience and technical expertise.
HIPG meetings take place every year just before Christmas.
During these meetings, an open seminar is given to the audience by invited power system engineers.
IEEE Greece PES Chapter is officially co-organizing these meetings since 2021.
2023
The 7th Hellenic International Power Group Meeting was held at the Zografou Campus of the National Technical University of Athens, on the 22rd of December 2023.
The event featured presentations by:
- Prof. George Kariniotakis (Mines Paris, PSL) on “Πρόβλεψη παραγωγής ανανεώσιμων πηγών ενέργειας – State of the art, αποτελεσμάτων του Smart4RES project και προτεραιότητες για μελλοντική έρευνα”
- Dr. Akylas Stratigakos (Imperial College London) on “Τεχνικές ανάλυση δεδομένων για συστήματα ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας και συμμετοχή σε αγορές ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας”
- Dr. Georgia Pierrou (ETH Zurich) on “Φόρτιση ηλεκτρικών οχημάτων σε ηλεκτρικά σιδηροδρομικά δίκτυα: αβεβαιότητες και ευελιξία”.
- Prof. Dionysios Aliprantis (Purdue University) on “Ηλεκτρικοί δρόμοι με δυναμική ασύρματη μεταφορά ισχύος”
2022
The 6th Hellenic International Power Group Meeting was held at the Zografou Campus of the National Technical University of Athens, on the 23rd of December 2022.
The event featured presentations by:
- Dr. Charalampos Avraam (New York University) on “Critical Infrastructure Resilience Against Extreme Weather Events and Cyber-attacks”
- Dr. Giorgos Tzounas (ETH Zurich) on “Precision and Stability Analysis of Numerical Integration Methods Using Matrix Pencils”
- Dr. Petros Aristidou (Technical University of Cyprus) on “Optimal Design and Operation of Microgrids with Static and Dynamic Security Criteria”
2021
The 5th Hellenic International Power Group Meeting was held at the Zografou Campus of the National Technical University of Athens, on the 22rd of December 2021.
The event featured presentations, through MS Teams due to the COVID pandemic, by:
- Dr. Pantelis Capros (National Technical University of Athens) on “Modeling the EU Internal Electricity Market”
- Dr. Nikolaos Hatziargyriou (National Technical University of Athens) on “The Evolution of Research in Microgrids Control”
- Dr. Constantinos Vournas (National Technical University of Athens) on “A Journey in the Analysis of Power System Dynamics”.
2019
The 4th Hellenic International Power Group Meeting was held at the Zografou Campus of the National Technical University of Athens, on the 20rd of December 2019.
The event featured presentations by:
- Mr. Georgios Giannopoulos (Elia, Belgium) on “Balancing the system close to real time”
- Mr. Georgios Patsakis (University of California at Berkeley, California, USA) on “Mixed Integer Programming Techniques for Efficient Black Start of Power Systems”
- Dr. Spyros Chatzivasileiadis (Danish Technical University, Denmark) on “North Sea Energy Hub 2030: Artificial Energy Islands to cover Europe’s electricity demand by Offshore Wind”.
2018
The 3rd Hellenic International Power Group Meeting was held at the Zografou Campus of the National Technical University of Athens, on the 21rd of December 2018.
The event featured presentations by:
- Dr. Alex Papalexopoulos (ECCO International & Zome Energy Networks, San Francisco CA, USA) on “The Destruction of the Centralized Energy Markets and the Emergence of the Transactive Energy Model”
- Dr. Dimitrios Papadaskalopoulos (Imperial College London) on “Bi-level optimisation and game-theoretic approaches for modelling deregulated electricity markets”
- Dr. Panagiotis Papadopoulos (University of Strathclyde, UK) on “Εκτίμηση δυναμικής ευστάθειας Συστημάτων Ηλεκτρικής Ενέργειας με αυξημένη πολυπλοκότητα και αβεβαιότητα”.

The 2nd Hellenic International Power Group Meeting was held at the Zografou Campus of the National Technical University of Athens, on the 22rd of December 2017.
