Digital Literacy for remote and underprivileged communities – session #1

The main objectives of the training session: – Improve participants’ digital literacy skills – computer/Internet navigation, basic software proficiency. – Foster an inclusive learning environment, including Lebanese underprivileged citizens, Syrian/Palestinian refugees, and women. – Raise awareness about online security risks and best practices to protect personal information and promote safe online behavior. – Enhance participants’ digital communication skills, including email etiquette, social media engagement, and responsible online communication. – Equip participants with the ability to troubleshoot common digital issues and seek online resources for self-help. – Prepare participants to continue their digital literacy journey beyond the course, emphasizing the importance of lifelong learning. Agenda: Agenda of the training – – Computer basics: – Software: Microsoft Windows or macOS operating system (depending on the computers available). – Hands-on Practice: Students will practice basic tasks such as navigating the desktop, opening and closing applications (e.g., File Explorer or Finder), and creating folders. – Basic software skills: – Software: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides). – Hands-on Practice: Students will learn how to create a simple document, spreadsheet, and presentation using the chosen software. – – Introduction to the internet: – Software: Web browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc.). – Hands-on Practice: Students will learn how to use web browsers to navigate the internet, conduct basic web searches, and visit websites. – Q&A and wrap-up American University of Technology, Al Kurah Campus, Dahr El Ain, Lebanon, Lebanon
