DL Kerem Camsari
Messina, April 17th, 2024

On April 17th, prof. Kerem Camsari, from the University of California Santa Barbara, USA, one of the 2024 Distinguished Lecturers of the IEEE Magnetics Society, gave his lecture in Messina, at the Aula Magna of the University Rectorate. For more information, contact the chair Vito Puliafito.
The title of his DL is “Probabilistic Computing With p-Bits: Optimization, Machine Learning and Quantum Simulation“.

Workshop “Micromagnetic modeling and spintronics”
Bari, June 19th, 2024

The Italy Chapter of IEEE Magnetics Society organized a workshop on June 19th, 2024, in Bari, at the Politecnico. The workshop was about recent results on micromagnetic modeling and spintronics. The event was free and welcomed students and researchers working in this field and related topics.

DL S.N. (Prem) Piramanayagam
Torino, June 26th and Milano, June 28th, 2024

The IEEE MAG Italy Chapter hosted the 2024 Distinguished Lecture prof. Prem Piramanagayam, from the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.
Prof. Piramanayagam gave his DL firstly in Torino, on June 26th, at the National Institute of Metrology, with the local organization led by Paola Tiberto, vice-Chair of the Chapter.
On June 28th, the DL was given at the Politecnico di Milano, with the local organization of Christian Rinaldi, member of the Chapter. The same day, Vito Puliafito, Chair of the Chapter, presented the Chapter activities and promote the membership.
The title of the DL is “Brain-Inspired Computing Using Magnetic Domain Wall Devices“.

DL Satoru Emori
Rome, July 15th and Bari, July 17th, 2024

The IEEE MAG Italy Chapter hosted the 2024 Distinguished Lecture prof. Satoru Emori, from the Virginia Tech, USA.
Prof. Emori gave his DL firstly in Rome, on July 15th, at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Richerche (CNR) in Piazzale Aldo Moro 7, with the local organization led by Dr. Gaspare Varvaro. The same day, Vito Puliafito, Chair of the Chapter, presented the Chapter activities and promote the membership.
On July 17th, the DL was given at the Politecnico di Bari, with the local organization of Vito Puliafito. In this case, the DL was given in hybrid mode.
The title of the DL is “Pumping Iron: Revealing Counterintuitive Mechanisms of Magnetization Dynamics“.

Seminar – prof. Virgil Provenzano, NIST USA
Messina, November 19th, 2024

The Italian Chapter of IEEE Magnetics Society hosted prof. Virgil Provenzano from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg, USA, who gave a seminar about “Phase Transformation during Cryogenic Treatment and Applied Magnetic Fields of Additively Manufactured Nitrogen Atomized 17-4PH Stainless Steel” on November 19th, 2024.
The seminar was given in person at the University of Messina, Italy.

Workshop “The Chapter meets EMA”
Messina, December 9th, 2024

The Italian Chapter of IEEE Magnetics Society hosts prof. Denis Meier, from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Prof. Denis Meier is vice-President of the European Magnetism Association (EMA). He will talk about his research on topological systems for reservoir computing and about the activities of EMA. The workshop will include three more presentations. Vito Puliafito, from the Politecnico di Bari, Chair of the Chapter, will talk about his research on Ising Machines and present Chapter’s activities. Francesca Garescì and Ali Hansan, from the University of Messina, will present their research.
The workshop will be held from 2pm to 5pm at the Department MIFT of the University of Messina.
