Zsolt Illyefalvi-Vitéz – Founding Chair of the Chapter

Biography

Dr. Zsolt Illyefalvi-Vitéz received his diploma in electrical engineering and his dr. techn. degree from BME, the Technical University of Budapest, Hungary, in 1965 and 1974, respectively, and “Candidate of Technical Science” degree (PhD) from the Hungarian Academy of Science, in 1981. In 2008, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa was awarded to him by the POLITECHNICA University of Bucharest (UPB) as “an homage paid to the quality and value of his whole activity, and to his personal contribution to the development of science. Above all, it was a token of esteem for his guidance and help, generously offered to UPB for joining the European and Global research, and educational and networking activities in the area of electronics packaging and interconnection technology”.

He worked at the Department of Electronics Technology for 61 years. He was the Head of the Department from 1995 to 2003. In the field of education and research his activity has included topics like microelectronics, packaging, components and manufacturing technology. He retired in 2012. After then for some years, as scientific expert has contributed to R&D&I activity of industrial companies and European Commission sponsored projects. Nowadays (in 2025) he only follows and supports the development of his scientific field and the dissemination of knowledge through online activities.

 

Science Managing Activities

He has been member of the IEEE (CPMT, now EPS) since 1990, Life Senior since 2019; founder, chair and officer of the Hu&Ro Joint Chapter; member of Steering Committees of many annual IEEE conferences, like International Spring Seminar on Electronics Technology (ISSE) (Chairman 1996-2002); International Symposium for Design and Technology in Electronics Packaging (SIITME) (Publication Chair 2008-2015); and other scientific bodies.
