About IEEE Botswana
In 2017 IEEE Botswana Subsection was formed. There has been two successful executive committees heading this Subsection since.
The subsection has a diverse group of members, from Professors, researchers, students and others in academia, to field managers and practicing engineers.

Dr. Bokamoso Basutli
Dr. Bokamoso Basutli (M’11) is a Professional Engineer registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB). He received his Ph.D. Degree in Electronic, Electrical, and Systems engineering from Loughborough University, U.K., in 2016. His Doctoral Thesis titled “Distributed Optimisation Techniques for Wireless Networks”, dealt with using economics models to optimise resource allocation in wireless cellular networks. His research interests include convex optimisation, resource allocation, wireless communications, and game theory. From 2008 to 2010, he was an Installation Engineer and a Lead Engineer with Singapore Technologies Electronics (Info-Software Systems). He was a Senior Telecommunications Engineer with the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana, from 2010 to 2012. He joined the BIUST as Founding Teaching Instructor, in 2012, where he is currently working as a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Electrical, Computer, and Telecommunications Engineering. He is currently leading the Signal Processing, Networks, and Systems Research (SPNS) Group. In January 2020, he was elected as the Vice-Chairman of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineer (IEEE) Botswana Sub- section and subsequently became the Chair in 2021.

Dr. Bokani Mtengi
Dr. Bokani Mtengi, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering. She graduated from Howard University, U.S.A with both a MEng. and PhD. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and from University of Hartford also in the U.S.A with a BEng in Biomedical Engineering. She worked as a Biomedical Engineer for the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MoHW) for 3 years and as a Transmission Electron Microscopy Engineer at Howard University for 3 years. She has served the IEEE Botswana Subsection Executive Committee as a Vice Chair in 2020, Secretary in 2021 and currently serves as the Vice Chair. She is the current country representative of the Women in Power (WiP) chapter of the Southern African region under IEEE Power & Energy Society.

Engr. Bokamoso Kebatho Ledimo
Bokamoso Kebatho Ledimo received the B.Eng. in Computer and Telecommunications Engineering from Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) in 2019. She is currently pursuing her M.Eng degree in the same discipline with focus on reconfigurable metasurfaces (RMS) antennas at BIUST. She is a group member of Signal Processing, Networks and Systems (SPNS) research group and currently a research assistant in the BotswanaSat-1 project. Her research interests include reconfigurable metasurfaces, antenna design and millimeter wave communications.

Dr. Thabiso Maupong
Thabiso Maupong graduated with an MEng. in Computer Engineering and PhD. in Electronics and Electrical Engineering in 2008 and 2017, respectively, from the University of Southampton in the UK. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science and Information System at Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST). His research interest includes data-driven control, systems theory, behavioural systems theory, application of data-driven control in power electronics. More recently he has developed an interest in Data Science, Software-Defined Computer Networks and Cyber Security.

Engr. Kebonyethebe Ramahatla
Kebonyethebe Ramahatla is a graduate engineer registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) in Botswana. He is also a member of the IEEE Botswana subsection since 2020. He received his Bachelor of Engineering in Computer and Telecommunications in 2020 from the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST). Kebonyethebe is currently pursuing his Master of Engineering in Computer and Telecommunications with the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) in Botswana. Beside the pursuit of his degree, he also works as a Research Assistant (RA) for the BotswanaSat-1 project. His research interests include RF and microwave engineering, wireless technology, reconfigurable and multi-band antenna design technology, 5G antenna technology as well as satellite technology.

Dr. Oduetse Matsebe
Dr. O. Matsebe is a Lecturer at the Botswana International University of Science & Technology, Department of Mechanical, Energy & Industrial Engineering teaching courses in Robotics, Mechatronics, Control Systems, Measurement & Instrumentation, Industrial Process Automation, Electrical & Electronics Engineering. He previously worked as a Student Researcher at the Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria, South Africa for three (3) years, where he was part of the Mechatronics & Micro-Manufacturing Research Group whose main research focus was the development of Autonomous Mobile Robotic Systems. He also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Lecturer (Part-Time) at the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, South Africa. Dr. Matsebe obtained a doctorate (D.Tech) degree from the Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa specialising in Robotics and Mechatronics. He also obtained an M.Eng degree in Electronic, Control & Systems Engineering from the University of Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom. He is competent with both hardware and software development of electro-mechanical systems. His research interests are in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML) techniques to Autonomous Robotics, Predictive Maintenance, Predictive Control and Solar Tracking Systems.

Engr. Kesaobaka Mmopelwa
Kesaobaka Mmopelwa graduate engineer registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) in Botswana. She received her Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics and Industrial Instrumentation from Botswana International University of Science and Technology in 2020. She is currently pursuing her Master of Engineering in Mechatronics and Industrial instrumentation. Her research work is focused on an attitude determination system for nanosatellites. Her research interest includes space instrumentation, renewable energy, nanosatellite systems and image processing. Kesaobaka is also a vstudent graduate member of IEEE.

Prof. Suresh Shanmugasundaram
Dr. Suresh has been serving as academician and researcher for about two decades and is currently working as Professor, Department of Engineering under the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Sciences at Botho University, Botswana and is affiliated with the Department of Computer Science at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, South Africa as a Research Associate. He is a registered Practising Engineer at the Engineer Registration Board, Botswana. He graduated his Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science & Engineering from Bharathiar University, India. Then he graduated his Master of Science in Computer Networks from Middlesex University, London. His Master’s degree thesis was studies on Efficient Approach for Secured Group Key Agreement. Later, he obtained his PhD from Anna University, Chennai, India. He has also attained his Master of Education in Higher Education in the year 2018. Dr. Suresh has authored a book on ‘Grid Computing Framework: Income Administration & Security’ and presented several research papers in various scientific forums. His areas of interest include Grid Computing, Cloud Computing, Hive Computing, High Performance Computer Networks, Distributed Computing and Engineering Education. He has represented various International Conferences as International Technical Committee Member, Sessional chair and keynote speaker. Countries visited by him include United Kingdom, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Thailand, Singapore, UAE, Kenya, Mauritius, Lesotho, USA, Sweden, Indonesia, Tanzania etc. He has adjudicated over 150 PhD thesis from various universities as External Examiner. He has been acting as external moderator for Universities like University of Johannesburg, Tshwane University of Technology, Durban University of Technology, etc. He has also been acting as reviewer for Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA), Botswana and South Africa’s National Research Foundation.

Dr. Nonofo Ditshego
Dr Nonofo M. J. Ditshego joined BIUST on February 2016 as a lecturer in the School of Electrical, Computer and Telecommunications Engineering. It is a new and growing institution and the biggest task is to increase its research capabilities, at the same time keeping it close and pertinent to the lives of Batswana. He received his MEng and PhD from University of Southampton, UK. After receiving his MEng degree, he worked for North East District Council (NEDC) and Chobe District Council (CHDC) which are both under the Ministry of local government, Botswana. In 2012, he enrolled for PhD studies in Electronic and Electrical Engineering under the supervision of Prof. P. Ashburn, Dr M. R. R. de Plaque and Dr. H. M. H Chong. The PhD project was based on 3D modelling, simulation and fabrication of zinc oxide nanowire field effect transistor for biosensing. The device is an emerging non-planar technology and is still at an embryonic stage from an industrial point of view. It possesses low signal to noise ratio, high current and mobility which makes it suitable for biosensing of cancer cells and pH solutions. He has authored and co-authored 17 international research articles, all Scopus indexed. He is a registered engineer with Botswana Institute of Engineers (BIE – membership number: B2600 1226 11), Engineers Registration Board (ERB – membership number: 20190043) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE- membership number: 9291 3475).

Dr. Oteng Tabona
Dr. Oteng Tabona enthusiastic researcher who was awarded a PhD in Big Data Forensics as a Service in the University of South Wales in the United Kingdom in 2017. He has an MEng in Computer Systems Engineering from Cardiff University, UK attained in 2012. He joined BIUST in 2018 where his roles include lecturing in cybersecurity and mobile computing, coordinate student projects, research and fostering industrial collaboration (locally and internationally). He played a major part in the establishment of BIUST Cyber Security Research Group in 2018. His mission is to promote cyber hygiene in Botswana through capacity building, consultation with industry local and international, build a network of cybersecurity experts in Botswana, regionally and internationally. His research interest includes Big Data Forensics, IoT Forensics and Security and ICS Forensics and Security.
